Having spent most of the day offline, I was quite saddened by the news of Arthur C. Clarke's death. I certainly couldn't conceive of a better tribute than that written by Patrick Nielsen-Hayden.

I'm apparently a bit odd in my immediate thoughts and memories going to Rendezvous with Rama rather than 2001, but that was the first book I ever read by him, and the sense of mystery and wonder from it has never left me.

Not another one. :(

I have been meaning to read the 2001 series. Maybe I will load it into my ipod as my tribute to him. Getting tired of all the vampire angst anyway. :p

Yeah, I was just thinking I ought to go through my bookshelves and read what I have of his next, since I'm not finishing Eragon, and I kinda sped through Dragonhaven in one day again.

You should look up the video he did for his 90th birthday. He was such an amazing guy.

What's funny is: you try to read Eragon, which you know is crap. But you won't read George R R Martin, who is definitely good. :)

Video. Okay. :)

It's not a refusal to read Martin, it's a lack of opportunity/forgetting to try. Especially since I always hesitate to go to the library these days because I always end up by being late. I go occasionally anyway, because I can't stand reading Enoch the same thing over and over again (Eric's going to definitely be taking over storytime when he gets to the age of loving repetition), but I always hesitate. That should change if we get this house, though, since I'll be all of 2 1/1 blocks away. ;)
