Pregnant

No really, I am. We've just been sitting on the news for a little over two months, because who can resist being obnoxious for two April Fool's Days in a row? Not us. Now no one will ever believe a word I say again, but it was worth it!

Be glad we waited to tell until now, really. This pregnancy has been really different, which makes us think girl. The difference has included puking or being on the verge of puking my guts out on a daily basis until the last week or two, when I've started to feel pretty safe (though if I have anything else that normally triggers nausea in me, headaches, tiredness, whatever, things are still coming up). So be glad you've avoided hearing me whine about that. On the plus side, I've lost 15-16 pounds, so no matter how crazy my body gets with the weight gain (and despite what doctors say, if you're eating decently, there is /nothing/ you can do to control how much you gain), I'm probably not going to end up a 300 pound monster at the end. If there does end up being a third, like I keep having a nasty feeling there should be, I'm definitely waiting until I've lost most or all my pregnancy and post-partum depression weight.

I'm thirteen weeks along right now and the estimated due date is October 6th. If this one ends up by being two days "late," as Enoch was, they will be exactly 18 months apart. Yeah, this happened a bit sooner than I expected, as in two weeks after I stopped taking my BC, when I technically shouldn't have even been able to get pregnant. I've been convinced of having fertility problems so long that I can't help but still think I have them, but the reality suggests otherwise. Of course, that brings up the question as to why I've never gotten pregnant without meaning to, since we have not exactly always been careful. Maybe my surgery plus pregnancy really did cure my endometriosis? I'm left baffled by the whole situation.

The baby's embryonic name is Superfly. Even though we do actually have names already (even a boy one if needed!), just like with Ja(y)ne, that's what it will be referred to as until it's born.

First of all: Congratulations! And boy what a tease you are--telling us THE TRUTH on April Fool's Day. Who'd'a thunk? :D

Secondly: if you were on oral contraceptives, I don't know who was giving you your information, but with every brand I've ever been on or looked into, you can get pregnant just from missing ONE pill, nevermind two weeks of them.

There seems to be at least an anecdotal incidence of leaving birth control and getting immediately pregnant. A friend of mine--who had one of the old-fashioned, copper IUDs that goes in for like 11 years, said that as soon as she had it taken out--WHAMMO.

Hee! Thanks!

It's certainly within the realm of possibility to get pregnant just from missing a pill, but when you've been on BC for a while, the hormonal balance of your uterus is changed, so it's not likely. Generally, when you've been on it a while, the first month off your body is still adjusting to getting back to regulating its own hormones. Given my history of not necessarily being careful (plus ignorance of the badness of the mix of antibiotics and BC when I was first married), plus when I got pregnant last time, I really wasn't completely out there to think it wouldn't happen immediately. ;)

And I'm not surprised about your friend with the copper IUD-after all, that has no hormones in it.

Hmm...my Mirena IUD is hormone-releasing (that's what keeps you from mensturating), and I've had it 4.5 years. They told me I *could* get pregnant right away, but that it would be better if I gave it a month or so to build the endrometric lining back up. So we're being ultra-careful just now...especially because we don't want a Capricorn. ;-)

I'm gonna be totally honest with you. Yesterday, I started to reply, and nearly finished. You had me tricked until just a few moments before I pushed "Post Comment", when I came to my senses.

And so, in light of this, I will post what I was going to post in that faithful hour:

What th - another one?! Darnit, Ginny, I told you that husbands and wives should kiss, cuddle, and nothing more!

Ah well. If it's a girl, will you name it Sarah? ;)

But in seriousness, congratulations. You're going to have one heck of a hustling and bustling household, dudette!

Right, Mirena does have hormones, but it's a very low level, even less than the mini-pill. It also definitely works by changing the environment of the uterus so that an egg can't implant, whereas with the pill, they're still arguing over whether it's the uterine environment or lack of ovulation that's the cause of it working (probably a combination of the two).

I admit to wondering what it was you were thinking, given your copying of me, funny as it was. ;)

No! Not Sara! I hate the name! And you didn't even spell it right!

Sara is the name I hold in reserve as an incentive for her not to die in childbirth (or George, if it's a boy).

Uh oh. Does this mean Hyper is really pregnant, too?

And congrats! Ha ha ha, you fooled (or didn't fool? ...I'm confused) me! :D

Oh, wow, I was SO sure this was another joke!

Congratulations! Wow, that is exciting. I am a wee bit jealous; we are hoping for a similar situation before too long, but then, I think of chasing my active son around along with handling an infant and go, "ok, maybe waiting a while isn't so bad..."

Glad to hear you are emerging from the worst of first trimester manifestations! Best wishes for smooth sailing from here on out.

Hahahahahahaha! I'll probably never be able to think of another good April Fool's Day joke, but these two years have been good enough I can probably just rest on my laurels. ;)

It is exciting, when I'm not terrifying myself. Ah well, it means we /have/ to get a house (must have own washer and dryer, since no way will Enoch be potty-trained at 18 months), so there are benefits. ;)

All this talk of failed BC suddenly makes me FAR less concerned about the fact that he wants to get snipped.

The pill + snip = very little chance of pregnancy = happy me
