Not being involved in any fan communities or whatnot and thus having no inkling of what was coming, I've been shocked by the extremely negative reaction to the book. Yes, it's nothing more than a Mary Sue wish fulfillment...but that's all the whole series is. Well, whatever. I enjoyed it.

Mine isn't going to be here until Tuesday. This is what I get for pre-ordering it from Amazon instead of just going to the bookstore. :/

Also, I've been staying spoiler-free, but anyone who doesn't expect fluff and Mary Sue-ism obviously wasn't paying attention for the first three books.

I know. I keep scratching my head. People are complaining about how the characters are totally different and not as deep and blah blah blah. Me? I wonder what books they read before. They're fun, I like them, but they're pure drivel. Part of the shock of how wonderful The Host was that it was from the same author. After reading the Twilight series, I didn't figure her for being able to write anything with actual substance.

Haha, "drivel" is the exact word I used to describe Meyer's writing a few days ago to a friend. I just finished Twilight yesterday. There certainly wasn't much depth to the characters in Twilight, so does she develop them in the following novels? I'm guessing if she does, it isn't much.

I agree--from reading Twilight, and realizing that Bella was a total Mary Sue in that book, how could anybody expect any different in the subsequent novels? Heck, I just saw something that broke down the description of Bella in comparison to Stephenie Meyer, and they even look the same, minus a couple of decades or so from Meyer.

Nah, there's really not much character development in any of them. The series is basically the angst of first love with sparkly vampires! I think it's quite possible that a lot of the people who are so into them probably don't read much, though, so wouldn't know deepness if it bit them in the nose. That doesn't mean they're not fun to read, but fun does not equal good.

I'm like... hold on... you people like these books BECAUSE they are Mary Sue, shallow, wish fullfillment cheesy romantic shit? You see that and LIKE IT?

I shake my head. I'm reading the first one, and I just wanna vomit. How this got popular, I do not know. I thought fandoms in general sneered down on Mary Sues.

The general problem seems to be that the last book is Mary Sue wish fulfillment, which is silly, since all the books are that way. The double-think, it confuses me.

Its not out here till monday, won't be buying it at that price anyways, so I can't say.... but I can imagine. Personally, I have never read such a bunch of fucking tripe.... I really can't see how people can fawn over this, aside from the fact they must self insert in some way.

And the fact that 'Cedric Diggory' is Edward really doesn't help the imagery.... If Edwards supposed to be a god like creature, I can't see why he was picked.

Oh, don't get me started on this book. I could rant all day.

Also, the fact its written in first person fucks me off. I hate that!

I like the books, but I won't deny that they're fluffy nonsense. But then, I also don't understand the Edward-related fawning. He doesn't seem that great to me. Perfect at everything except having the personality of a piece of cardboard. Yawn.
